ED WALKER: Hi, my name is Ed Walker. I'm in the masters of science and human resource analytics and management program.
REGINA XIONG: My name is Regina Xiong, and I am studying HR analytics and management.
ED WALKER: For me the program is, I've always had a passion for helping people. And coming from the nonprofit world originally and moving to the private sector world of investment banking this is one of the best ways that I can create a truly unique experience for the customers, meaning employees, focusing on talent management I'm able to generate a work culture that people want be in and can also thrive in. I think one of the biggest challenges facing HR today is definitely big data. No one is really sure what to do with some of the data they have and I think AU really carved out a niche by answering that question.
REGINA XIONG: I want to take my AU graduate degree and hopefully get an HR executive role. I’m currently in a manager role kind of mid-level so I’m hoping this graduate degree will really put me a step above and get to that next level.
ED WALKER: The three words that really describe the HR program at AU is personable, relevant, and engaging. Personable, because every professor wants you to do your best. Everyone’s willing to reach out. Everybody’s willing to help. Relevant, because it’s letting me do projects that really wouldn’t pertain to me at all.
REGINA XIONG: The three words I would use to describe my program are innovative, data driven, and practical. A lot of HR, people think it’s just soft skills, and that’s an important part and that’s why it’s practical to get those soft skills. But to get the analytics part and technology part, that’s where that data comes in and is kind of changing the face of HR. So, AU is really innovative in that way. And that they’re kind of looking toward the future of the industry of HR. That’s why I think this grad program is really unique.
ED WALKER: I’ll be honest with you. AU has opened up a lot of doors and put me in connection with a lot of people that I probably would have never met.
