Discover technology-based solutions in today’s HR field.
Technology is causing many HR functions such as wellness programs and benefits information to be delivered via electronic means. Known as e-HR, this new model requires HR professionals to develop new skills and management techniques. The online Certificate in Human Resource Analytics and Management provides a convenient route to gaining these new skills — it can be completed in just 12 to 15 months.
As a certificate student at American University, you will have access to the Career Directions program in the Office of Graduate & Professional Studies. The center provides professional development resources for adult learners and offers a variety of workshops, as well as one-on-one career coaching sessions. Our goal is to ensure you're immediately prepared to apply information to the workplace upon completion of the program.

*PROF 660: Data-Driven Decision Making (3 credit hours)
The primary goal of this course is to explore quantitative and qualitative tools and methods used to evaluate, present, and communicate data (big and small). Students will also learn how to summarize and communicate findings to stakeholders so that they may make informed decisions that will improve the overall quality and efficiency of an organization. Topics include asking the right questions of data, constructing Statements of Work for performance and impact evaluation, conducting t-tests, ANOVA, ANCOVA, matching, differences in differences, regression discontinuity in program evaluation, and disseminating quantitative findings. No prerequisites.
HRAM 600: Human Resource Information Systems (HRIS) (3 credit hours)
In many organizations, employees mainly interact with HR through a portal rather than with a person. This course will examine leading performance and tracking tools, range of systems, and the role of cloud-based tools within the workplace and human resource management.
HRAM 610: Evaluating Hiring, Performance and Employee Metrics (3 credit hours)
Determining what metrics to measure and report depends on an organization’s strategy and goals. The implementation of an HR reporting system should be carefully planned and focus on the metrics that affect progress toward business goals. This course emphasizes the process of identifying which data are important, and how to measure and communicate goals for sustainability.
HRAM 630: Compliance and Risk Reduction Strategies (3 credit hours)
This course will explore workplace culture, legal requirements, and what metrics can inspire behavior change through compliance training. It will examine ethical and legal compliance issues; how to meet the needs of diverse audiences; and evaluations of investigations and workplace risk-avoidance training initiatives, with a focus on legal requirements, method definition and an evaluation of the delivery.
*Optional DC Experience @ AU (on-campus).
