By way of brief introduction, I want to welcome you as you learn more about the online Master of Science in Healthcare Management program at American University! My name is Eric Oestmann, PhD, PT (pronounced 'East-man') and I have more than 30 years of healthcare experience in military and private (for profit and nonprofit) settings as a senior level healthcare manager; owner/operator of a healthcare consulting practice since 1995 "OEI Consulting"; and post-secondary healthcare management faculty member since 1997, in addition to extensive clinical experience as a licensed Physical Therapist.
We are very excited to launch this program in 2017 and have designed the curriculum to be ideally suited for healthcare management and healthcare consulting careers based largely on the input of our healthcare executive advisory board. In summary, the Master’s in Healthcare Management curriculum is competency-based whereby students will have opportunities to create a professional portfolio for prospective employers that demonstrates expertise in data analytics, written/presentation communication skills, and decision making among other highly sought after skills.
Our goal is to: Develop an elite group of change agents for healthcare management and healthcare consulting in the 21st century through a unique analytical and competency skill-based curriculum.
In 2016, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported 17%+ growth through 2024 for "Medical and Health Services Managers" with a median salary of $94,500.
