This course explores a wide range of theoretical and conceptual frameworks for understanding public communication, or communication in the public sphere. The course reviews of relevant theories of public communication, including theories of interpersonal communication, persuasion, public relations, public opinion, mass communication, and media studies. The course also includes theories of research methodologies and their application to public communication practices.
Communication Theory covers both classic and contemporary viewpoints across a very diverse range. Assignments are designed to provide the opportunity to develop familiarity and comfort in working with the theoretical and conceptual tools needed to complete the capstone requirement as well as the analytical skills.
